I don’t know if you’ve seen this trailer for Beginners yet Jasun, but it relates in a roundabout way to the topic of this video: coming out later in life (60s-70s not 40s). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXUFUp6vsxg

I always feel like you’re my older brother giving me advice, yet I also have a crush on you. So it’s like interesting and naughty at the same time.

      I feel the same way.

Good post Jasun…So I added up the numbers you mentioned to figure out your age…That’s cool…I have to say that the older I’ve gotten the more fun I’ve had. It started after I turned 30 and that was almost 20 years ago. Most 20 somethings have no idea how much fun we have.

      I’m 42.

My 40s have been the best decade of my life, by far.

You basically lose your “gay passport” at 40. It does not mean that you have lost your being it means that with most gay men, looks and age rule. Do I like it…NO, does it exist …YES. I am a major film producer in the motion picture industry and have a viable life plus life does go on after 40; but there are major limitations within the gay community. LISTEN to younger gay men when describing older gay men as creepy, trolls, etc with the adjectives. It was AIDS that got the gay community to recognize that you get old and you die. Before that there was never an obit column in the gay newspapers and you never talked about growing older. “Age is a condition and not a privilege”.
We have a history of being mean spirited to each other and it is the one aspect of gay life that is not appreciated nor understood.

Jasun, I really loved what you had to say here. I’m 19 days from 50 and only just in the process of coming out. I don’t feel old or unattactive and think I have a decent personality. I really intend to have a ball when I get my shit together! I don’t care how young or old the guy is, as long as we enjoy each other and have a good time. I have the problem of living with a sister who thinks she knows everything about relationships and according to her, gay men are incapapble of forming ongoing monogomus relationships with each other. We are just a bunch of ass chasing pervs who will ultimately spend our lives alone and single. ( She’s been married and divorced twice and dates men 10 or more years younger than her who are either married or in longterm relationships with other women) Some expert. Anyway loved your views. Keep it up. Please make sure to buy your husband flowers on Monday from a retail florist. I own a flower shop and hate online flower shoppers.

Ugh… I mean, my sister has never done the homophobic rants, i come from a very liberal, pro-gay family. But she’s certainly had her serial monogamy on. I don’t judge… I know a lot of gay men who go from partner to partner, too. It’s not just straight people who can’t commit. That said, I seldom see people saying that straight people aren’t as good as gay people. OK, I say that, but I’m the only one.

In the end we’re all doing the same things, no matter where we’re coming from. Peace out Jasun
