So last night a Gay Daily Hot reader and friend became a Grammy Winner.

Fuck the porn, I’m SO jazzed about this that I’m almost speechless and that doesn’t happen much.

Judas Priest finally took home their first Grammy Award last night. Seems insane that the band that pretty much invented the Heavy Metal look and sound of the 70s and 80s never really got the recognition that they deserved in the mainstream. I mean yeah.. I named my dog “Halford” but that’s hardly a tribute big enough for the band that gave us fist-in-the-air anthems like “Living After Midnight” and “Rock Hard Ride Free.”

Judas Priest took the leather man look from the gay bars of the 60s and 70s and brought it to an unsuspecting mainstream audience who didn’t really know where the leather studded harnesses and gauntlets came from.

Us homos knew but we kept the secret.

They gave a generation of young gay men “fight” songs like “You got another thing coming” and “Defenders of the Faith.”

Rob can also be credited with a few winks to his gay fans with songs like “Turbo Lover” which, if you have any grasp of the lyrics at all, is almost certainly about two guys having a quick fuck (I always pictured it being one against an alley wall after a Priest show). From the same album “Out In The Cold” I’ve always figured was the lament of a gay guy seeing the guy he’s in love with settle down with a woman.

If you haven’t heard Rob’s solo album “Resurrection,” you’re missing out. It’s fantastic. One of my favorite albums of all time along with Priest’s “Defenders Of The Faith.”

He’s also had a couple head scratching moments that only the die hards really “got” like his Trent Reznor-produced “Voyeurs” album (it’s got my theme song “I Am A Pig” on it) and last year’s unexpectedly endearing Heavy Metal Christmas album “Winter Songs.”

Rob’s also still hot as fuck after all these years.

And now he’s a Grammy Winner.

Congratulations, my friend. I’m very proud of you and I can’t wait to see you on tour soon.
