Gethin Anthony is winning the hearts of straights and gays alike as the personable, gay King Renly Baratheon on HBO’s Game of Thrones. All about the British hottie after the jump, including slide-by-slide photos of Renly’s Episode 3 wild make out session with his wife’s brother and Anthony’s amusing Straight But Not Narrow video.
First of all, I want that crown! I thought it was just me but apparently many fans are going crazy for it.
Second, though he’s straight (and, delightfully, not narrow), Anthony has done such a terrific job of portraying the charismatic Renly that he’s gone from little known to one of the show’s most popular characters in just a few episodes. And that’s not just with gay people. I read dozens of comments after Sunday’s episode, most from straight woman and quite a few straight men who are totally crushing on the 28 year old British actor. (Of course, it helps that the rest of the kings and would-be kings are mostly a loathsome bunch.)
Third, he just so fucking adorable. He’s got a toothy smile that charms instantly and a pleasant British accent that will make you swoon. He’s slender with a mildly hairy body that has probably never seen a razor. And his nose–maybe once broken?–adds a physical grace note of incongruence that makes him all the more fetching.
For these reasons and a whole lot more, let’s cap Anthony’s big break from marginal TV series and movies by crowning him officially, 100% HOTT.
