These arrived in my email from a viewer. No history on how they came to be in his possession, but I’m going to guess that they’re past their copyright date anyway.
I’ve looked around to see where they may have come from but ended up empty handed. If anyone happens to know.. I’d love to hear the story.
All I know is that these pictures that appear to have been taken in the 19th century are probably the earliest gay porn photography that I’ve ever seen. Or they’re spectacular forgeries. And I’m usually pretty good at snaking fakes out.
Either way, this appears to be some rather cool gay history.. so enjoy. And I’d like to point out that haircuts and fashion aside, porn hasn’t changed that much, has it? Including.. the guys are pretty hot.

OH SHIT Grandpa!!!! J/K
Some look like beef cake or underground gay mag kinda stuff
These are more than likely from France (they had fewer laws on sexually explicit photos at that time). I have seen a few of these on the website flickr.com
At least three of these (vin_026, vin_040, and vin_041) can be found in the book “Homosexual Men: Erotic Art Photograph, Vol. 8″, and two more (2101vintage_rare26857 and 26855) in the Rotenberg Collection’s book, “Forbidden Erotica.”
Hi from the UK. Whilst preparing for a vintage photography degree in the mid 1980s i came across a whole battered pig-skin suitcase full of this type of stuff. From memory the photographs all contained a French/English watermark, i’d say the distribution was carried out by the French, but i have come across several English distributors, though not related to these pics. Coincidentally, i also ran across a collection of straight photographs watermarked a Parisian photographer but all the models were English. At least 2 of the men in your pictures seemed to have done modelling for straight porn too.
As fantastic as it seems, i was also introduced to an 86 year old man who modelled for 4 years in Paris for a female brothel owner at the turn of the 20th century. He did animal photos too, though back then it was arty verging on the comical.
